Studio: Strong
Foundations

Start where you are.

Build strength for life.

New to strength training? You're in the right place.

Studio: Strong Foundations is a welcoming, coached strength class designed for complete beginners. It's a chance to learn how to lift weights, get comfortable using gym equipment and build strength at your own pace, without feeling out of your depth.

Whether you've never stepped into a gym, you're returning to exercise after a break, or you simply want to feel stronger and more confident in your body, we'll help you get started.

No experience needed. Just come as you are.

45 minutes · Small-group coaching · Women's Only. All ages welcome

A little more confidence with every session

Walking into a gym for the first time can feel daunting, particularly when you're not quite sure what you're doing. Strong Foundations is designed to take away some of that uncertainty.

Rather than being thrown into a workout and expected to keep up, you'll be guided through the movements, shown how to use the equipment and given time to practise.

We focus on getting the basics right, understanding how your body moves and gradually building your confidence with weights.

There's no pressure to lift a certain amount, keep up with anyone else or get everything right first time. Everyone starts somewhere, and progress looks different for everyone.

This is your space to learn, ask questions and discover what you're capable of.

What happens in a class?

Each 45-minute session focuses on one key strength exercise, giving you the time and guidance to understand the movement and practise it properly.

Learn the fundamentals

We'll introduce you to the key movements that form the basis of a good strength-training programme, including squats, hinges, presses, rows and other everyday movement patterns.

Understand the equipment

You'll learn how to set yourself up, adjust your position, choose an appropriate weight and use the equipment with confidence. We'll explain what to do and why, so it starts to feel familiar.

Build your technique

Your coach will demonstrate each movement, talk you through the important points and offer individual guidance as you practise. There's plenty of opportunity to ask questions.

Progress at your own pace

We'll start with variations that suit your current ability and build from there. As your technique and confidence improve, you can gradually introduce more challenging versions or weights.

The aim isn't to lift the heaviest weight in the room. It's to learn well, get stronger and feel good about what you're doing.

Who is Studio: Strong Foundations for?

Anyone who wants to get stronger but would like a little guidance to begin.

You might be:

  • Completely new to strength training and unsure where to start.

  • Nervous about using weights or gym equipment.

  • Returning to exercise after time away.

  • Looking to build strength, balance and confidence as you get older.

  • Navigating changes in midlife or menopause and wanting to make strength training part of your routine.

  • Looking for a friendly, supportive environment where you can learn without pressure.

Our sessions bring together people of different ages and backgrounds. You don't need to fit a particular mould, have a certain level of fitness or feel confident before you arrive.

You can start exactly where you are.

Your first class - What to expect

Before you arrive

Book your place online and come in comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Wear trainers and bring a bottle of water. You don't need to buy any equipment or prepare in advance.

When you arrive

We'll welcome you into the studio, explain how the session works and help you get settled. If you're feeling nervous, have any injuries or information we should know about, or maybe a few questions, that's absolutely fine! Chat to our coach on the day and they'll be able to answer any questions you may have.

During the session

Your coach will demonstrate the exercise, explain the set-up and technique, and guide you as you practise. You'll be shown suitable options for your ability, with time to get comfortable with the movement.

When you finish

You'll leave with a better understanding of the exercise, a little more confidence and a foundation you can build on in future sessions.

You don't need to know anything before you arrive. That's what we're here for.

Prefer to learn the basics in a workshop?

Strong Foundations Workshop

If you can't make our regular class times, or you'd prefer a more focused introduction before joining a group session, our Strong Foundations workshop is another way to get started.

These dedicated sessions offer an opportunity to spend time learning the fundamentals of strength training, going over the main moves in the gym (Push, Pull, Squat & Hinge), understanding the equipment and practising key movements in a supportive setting.

It's a good option if you'd like a little more time to ask questions, work on your technique and feel more prepared before making strength training part of your regular routine.

Workshop dates and availability are announced separately.
