Evening Unwind & Restore Yoga

Let go of the week. Return to yourself.

Evening Unwind and Restore Yoga is a gentle, grounding Friday night class designed to help you transition from the demands of the week into the calm of the weekend.

Through breathwork, mindful movement, and long-held restorative postures, this class offers a soothing experience that nourishes your nervous system, releases physical tension, and cultivates a deeper connection to yourself.

Whether you’ve had a stressful week or simply want to slow down and reset, this practice is your invitation to pause, breathe, and restore.

What to Expect in the Class

The class begins with a guided meditation and breathwork to help you land in the space — leaving behind the noise of the day and gently arriving in the moment.

From there, we move into a slow-paced, intuitive yoga flow with an emphasis on ease, softness, and deep body awareness. You’ll explore gentle movements and supportive postures designed to release tightness in key areas such as the hips, shoulders, and spine.

Props may be used to support the body fully in certain poses, making it easier to experience complete relaxation without any effort. The session concludes with a long, supported Savasana (final relaxation), giving your body and mind the space to fully integrate the practice.

The Studio will remain a quiet space afterward for those staying on or simply wishing to remain in a restful state a little longer. This class is open to all levels, including beginners.

The Science Behind Yoga

Modern science continues to affirm what ancient traditions have long known: yoga doesn’t just stretch the body — it soothes the entire nervous system. At the heart of this is the parasympathetic nervous system, often referred to as the "rest and digest" mode. This is the body’s natural state for healing, replenishing energy, and cultivating inner calm — yet many of us spend most of our time in the opposite state, the “fight or flight” stress response.

Evening Unwind and Restore Yoga uses slow, deliberate movement, long-held supported poses, and controlled breathwork to signal safety to the brain and body. These techniques help to lower cortisol levels (the body’s main stress hormone), reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, and encourage a slower, more rhythmic heart rate.

Importantly, this kind of practice also stimulates the vagus nerve — a key component of the body’s relaxation response — which improves heart rate variability (HRV), emotional regulation, digestion, and even immune resilience. A well-regulated vagus nerve is associated with better mood, reduced anxiety, and improved sleep quality.

Put simply, restorative yoga isn't just relaxing — it's biologically healing. It allows your body to switch gears, move into a deeper state of rest, and initiate the kind of internal repair that’s often inaccessible during daily life.

The Benefits of Unwinding at the End of the Working Week

By Friday evening, many of us are depleted. We’ve spent the week juggling work, family responsibilities, screens, deadlines, and expectations — all while suppressing our own need for pause, movement, or rest. This accumulated tension doesn’t just disappear; it stores itself in our shoulders, jaw, hips, and nervous system. Without a deliberate transition out of this state, we can carry that stress straight into the weekend — and often into the next week.

Making space to consciously unwind at the end of the week is more than an indulgence — it’s a reset button for your entire being.

Creating a boundary between your working week and your weekend helps you:

Release stress from both the body and mind

Improve the quality of your sleep, especially on Friday nights

Feel more emotionally present with loved ones and social plans

Avoid emotional hangovers, burnout cycles, and weekend fatigue

Start Saturday feeling refreshed, not recovering

Evening Unwind and Restore Yoga offers this sacred pause — a physical and emotional exhale that helps you reclaim your weekend from the start.

Why We Need This Practice in Our Lives

We live in a culture that celebrates productivity, constant motion, and doing more — often at the cost of our mental clarity, emotional wellbeing, and physical health. Slowing down, resting, and turning inward can feel uncomfortable or even unfamiliar at first, but it is exactly what our bodies, minds, and hearts are craving.

Evening Unwind and Restore Yoga is a practice of permission: permission to pause, to soften, to breathe, and to listen. It reminds us that we are not machines — we are cyclical, emotional, feeling beings who need moments of stillness to find balance again.

This practice isn’t about pushing limits or achieving goals. It’s about letting go, noticing what’s present, and reconnecting with the part of yourself that often gets drowned out in the noise of daily life. It’s a quiet kind of strength — the strength that comes from knowing when to stop, rest, and realign.

When we make space for this kind of practice regularly — especially at key transition points like the end of the week — we don’t just feel better in the moment. We become more resilient, more self-aware, and more connected to our own rhythms.

This isn’t just yoga. It’s nervous system hygiene. It’s an act of emotional intelligence. It’s a gift to your future self.
