Strengthen From The Inside Out!

Pilates at The Studio is a feel-good, full-body workout that builds deep core strength, improves posture, enhances flexibility, and supports your body’s everyday movement. Whether you're completely new or returning to practice, our Pilates classes are designed to meet you where you are, with a focus on form, control, and connection between mind and body.

What to Expect in the Class

Each Pilates class at The Studio is a chance to move with intention, reconnect with your body, and build lasting strength from the inside out. You’ll be guided through a series of low-impact, floor-based exercises designed to target key stabilising muscles, especially through the core, glutes, shoulders, and spine. Movements are slow and controlled, with a strong emphasis on posture, precision, and breathwork. You won’t find any high-intensity jumping or heavy lifting here, just carefully curated exercises that work deeply and intelligently through your whole body.

We begin each session with grounding breathwork and gentle mobility drills to ease tension, awaken the joints, and bring awareness to your alignment. From there, the class flows into strengthening sequences that challenge balance, control, and endurance. Expect to use your own bodyweight as resistance, with the occasional addition of bands, Pilates balls, or other small props to provide feedback, variety, and a deeper challenge.

The pace of the class allows time to understand and feel each movement fully, making it ideal for beginners as well as those with more experience. Every movement can be adapted to suit your body and your needs on the day, whether that means dialing it back or adding progression.

Pilates is especially valuable if you:

  • Are recovering from injury or managing joint sensitivity

  • Want to strengthen your core and improve posture

  • Need a mindful, low-impact way to build strength and mobility

  • Are looking to improve performance in other training disciplines (like lifting, running, or yoga)

  • Want to enhance your body awareness and move with greater ease day-to-day

You’ll leave each class feeling taller, more connected, and more in tune with your body, carrying that strength and calm into the rest of your week.

The Science Behind Pilates

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century as a method to build strength, improve flexibility, and restore natural movement patterns in the body. Rooted in six foundational principles: stability, concentration, control, breath, flow, and precision, Pilates is a system of movement that brings the body and mind into balance. Each of these principles plays a vital role in how the exercises are performed, ensuring that movement is not only effective but mindful and sustainable over time.

Modern science has validated what practitioners have known for decades: Pilates works. Research shows that regular Pilates practice enhances core strength, reduces chronic back pain, increases joint mobility, improves postural alignment, and supports better functional movement, the kind we use in everyday activities like walking, lifting, and reaching. It targets both the deep stabilising muscles (like the transverse abdominis and pelvic floor) and the larger movement muscles, creating a balanced, integrated approach to strength.

Unlike some workouts that prioritise intensity or speed, Pilates emphasises quality over quantity. Movements are performed with precision and care, training the neuromuscular system to move more efficiently and effectively. Over time, this reduces the risk of injury, corrects muscular imbalances, and builds a more resilient, functional body.

Pilates also goes beyond the physical. Its intentional use of breathwork and concentration activates the parasympathetic nervous system, your body's natural rest-and-digest state. This not only helps to calm the mind, lower stress levels, and improve focus, but also enhances circulation, digestion, and recovery.

In this way, Pilates becomes more than a workout. It’s a mind-body practice that encourages presence, sharpens awareness, and helps you build a body that not only looks strong, but feels and functions better every day.

Why Pilates is a Great Workout

Pilates is far more than just a series of exercises—it’s a full-body conditioning method that offers benefits for every aspect of your health and fitness. Here’s why it’s such a powerful and transformative practice:

  • Core Strength & Stability
At the heart of every Pilates movement is the core—the deep muscles that stabilise your spine, pelvis, and shoulders. Unlike traditional workouts that may focus on surface-level muscles, Pilates trains the muscles you can’t always see but that are crucial for supporting your posture and protecting your joints. A strong core not only enhances physical performance but also helps prevent injuries and improves daily comfort, from sitting at a desk to carrying groceries.

  • Improved Flexibility & Mobility
Pilates exercises are designed to move the body through its full, natural range of motion, improving both muscle flexibility and joint mobility. Over time, this leads to greater ease and fluidity in everyday movements. Rather than pushing into extreme stretches, Pilates encourages safe, sustainable flexibility that supports strength and joint health, helping you move better—not just more.

  • Supports Other Training

Pilates is an excellent complementary practice for athletes, runners, lifters, and anyone involved in high-impact or repetitive activities. It sharpens alignment, enhances muscular balance, and trains the body to move efficiently. This not only boosts performance but also greatly reduces the risk of overuse injuries. Many people find that incorporating Pilates improves their squat depth, running efficiency, balance in yoga, and even their recovery time between workouts.

  • Enhances Body Awareness

Pilates places a strong emphasis on mindful movement and precision, helping you cultivate a deeper connection to your body. You’ll learn to recognise and correct imbalances, activate muscles more efficiently, and move with greater control. This heightened proprioception (awareness of where your body is in space) benefits not just your workouts, but everyday activities—making you stronger, safer, and more coordinated in daily life.

  • Feel-Good Movement
Pilates offers the perfect balance between strength and ease. It is low-impact, making it accessible for all fitness levels, yet highly effective, providing deep, lasting results. After a session, many people describe feeling taller, lighter, and more energised. It’s a workout that challenges you without depleting you—building strength, resilience, and a sense of calm all at once.
